The music that you can find in this region is a music that speaks of times past, of times where the sole inhabitants of Colombia were the natives. In others words the musical patterns that govern the field of indigenous cultures are totally different to others culturesin the country.
In the colombian Amazon the folklore is closer to the folklore of neighboring Brazil and Peru. Our aboriginal music hasn't a esthetic significance, but functional: you can say it is an ingredient for needs in a magical and religious fields. In the Amazonian departments of Caqueta and Putumayo, has been created the Merengue Andino. It is Andean because the rhythms was developed based on Andean peasants in the Putumayo Andean region , but is very popular in the Amazon region of those departments.
